Six Ways to Connect with People at Church

I have moved around so much. It was always hard for me to plant roots and connect with people. I especially found it hard to connect with people at church. It would always seem like people rushed in and out as if church was just a pitstop in the busy race of life. Imagine trying to make friends on a busy train of a bustling city during morning rush hour --it would be kind of intimidating. I didn't realize that my lens was a bit distorted, there were people who would take their time and stay after church to meet, but I still didn't know how to really make connect.

WHY DO WE GO TO CHURCH?

So how can we go deeper? How can we better understand the meaning of the place where we congregate? And how can we see it as a place in which friendships can potentially be made?

Okay, let's talk church. How would you describe church, the place we congregate on Sunday's, to someone who doesn't know the meaning?

I define church as a holy place where Christian people worship, pray and fellowship with one another.

WHAT IS FELLOWSHIP?

Wait what was that last word?

FELLOWSHIP

Yes, I said fellowship. What does that mean?

There are many definitions of fellowship, but I like how Paul breaks it down in Hebrews 10.

Hebrews 10:24-25 

24 And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds,25 not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.  

USING SCRIPTURE AS A TOOL FOR ACTION

So let's see how we can use Hebrews 10:24-25 to help encourage us to learn to make church connections that last beyond the church doors:

Let's open up verse 24 and look for the action: spur. Spur in this context sounds like it means to stir up, to motivate one another.
